Florida Southern College vs. University of Havana (1924)

In 1924, Southern College (Florida Southern) played two games against the University of Havana's varsity squad. On November 29, Southern's football team hosted the Caribes at their new campus in Lakeland, Florida. According to Diario de la Marina, Southern College defeated the Havana eleven by a score of 32 to 7. Southern's halfback Reese starred in the game while the Caribes' only score came from a 30-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. On December 6, Southern College and the University of Havana played rematch in Tampa that ended in a 0-0 tie. According to Havana Post, the Caribes handled the heat better than their opponents and remained on the offensive most of the game. Havana also benefited from outstanding play from the play of halfback Harmon (a former player at Mercer) and fullback Espinosa. This two game series was the last played between Southern College and Cuban teams.
